Government Engagement

Through the Government Engagement Program, Shift works with individual governments seeking to advance business respect for human rights as part of their own duty to protect against human rights abuses. This work ranges across a variety of policy areas and government departments - as seen in the individual project descriptions on the left hand side of this page. It includes support to governments to develop dialogues with companies and other domestic stakeholders about business and human rights as well as advice on particular areas of policy and implementation.

Under this Program, Shift has facilitated and supported a range of business and multistakeholder workshops addressing aspects of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights for individual governments, including Germany, Sweden, Norway and the US Department of State. For example, Shift is currently supporting the Government of Sweden to shape and deliver multistakeholder workshops on the Guiding Principles and relevant business and human rights challenges in Lusaka and Cairo.
