Our Funding
Shift is a US-registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We receive support from a mix of government and foundation supporters.
We also derive revenue from our Business Learning Program and our Financial Institutions Practitioners Circle, which covers advisory support provided under that program. Where we work with a partner like an international organization or a multistakeholder or industry initiative, we typically receive funding directly from them for the project.
Shift can accept donations, to which we apply a set of Board-approved criteria.

Case Studies for Shift’s program advancing corporate Human Rights Reporting as a driver of improved performance
To support the monitoring and evaluation of Shift’s Reporting Program, Shift contracted an external organization, JGG, to develop a number of case studies the extent to which the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework and related tools enable more meaningful company human rights disclosure. The key findings from this research support our program’s theory of change that stronger disclosure – aligned with the expectations of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights – lead to improved company behavior and decision-making.
